French inspection team to check Belarusian army units

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) An inspection team from France will stay in Belarus on 20-24 March to choose and examine a unit of the Belarusian army in line with the Conventional Weapons in Europe Treaty. The inspectors will also visit the 336th Rocket Artillery Brigade within the framework of the 2011 Vienna Document, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The French inspectors will make sure that the number of armaments and military hardware on site matches the numbers Belarus has revealed in accordance with the Conventional Weapons in Europe Treaty.


Initiative for Belarus-Poland mass media cooperation agreement

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) The Belarusian Information Ministry is initiating the development of an agreement on Belarus-Poland cooperation in information sphere, BelTA learned from Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich during her meeting with Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marek Ziolkowski.

The Information Minister said: It is important for information to promote cooperation, to help us understand each other better and trust each other, to contribute to stronger trade and economic projects and to stronger political cooperation.


Belarus delegation in Pakistan to discuss bilateral cooperation

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) The two-day working visit of the Belarusian delegation led by Industry Minister Vitaly Vovk to Karachi (the administrative center of Pakistans Sind Province) started on 9 March, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Pakistan.

On the first day of the visit the Belarusian delegation took part in the opening of the fourth meeting of the joint Belarus-Pakistan commission on trade and economic cooperation.


Call to abolish confiscation of goods as a penalty in Belarus

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) - Belarus can abolish such measure as confiscation of goods as punishment of business, Valery Borodenya, a member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

In European countries there is no penalty as confiscation. I would keep in place such measure as vehicle confiscation for repeated DIU during a year.


Advancement of Belarus-UK relations discussed

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Belarus Fionna Gibb on 21 February, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

During the meeting Oleg Kravchenko and Fionna Gibb discussed the advancement of Belarus-UK relations.

Belarus refinancing rate down to 16% per annum

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) The refinancing rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) was reduced from 17% to 16% per annum on 15 February, BelTA learned from the NBRB Information and PR Office.

Apart from that, the interest rate on standing and bilateral operations designed to keep up the current liquidity of Belarusian banks was reduced from 22% to 20% per annum.

The NBRB representatives explained that the decisions had been taken by the board and the monetary policy committee of the National Bank on the basis of the consumer prices growth forecast, the situation on the currency and deposit markets, the countrys foreign trade and balance of payments.

Belarus, Estonia discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) - Belarus Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Estonia Anatoly Stepus and Estonia Prime Minister Juri Ratas discussed the ways of developing the inter-parliamentary cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic and other areas and considered the ways of advancing the Belarusian-Estonian inter-parliamentary cooperation, the ministry informed.

Belarus, Rosatom set BelNPP construction tasks for 2017

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) - A regular meeting of the operations center for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was held in Ostrovets with the participation of Belarus Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko and Rosatom Deputy Director General Alexander Lokshin, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry.

The meeting considered the status of construction of the nuclear power plant, the delivery and receipt of the equipment, the quality of the works, the results of control (supervision) activities, and other issues.

Makei: Belarus will continue maintaining friendly relations with India

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) - Belarus is determined to continue maintaining traditionally warm and friendly relations with India, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at an official reception held on 26 January to mark Indias Republic Day, BelTA has learned.

We are proud of the fact that a highly promising partner in South Asia such as India invests its efforts in maintaining our friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, said the minister.

Belarus, Sudan to share experience of legislation improvement

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) Belarus and Sudan will share their experience of improving national legislation, BelTA learned from Olga Murashkovskaya, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Justice Ministry.

Experience will be shared in line with the memorandum of understanding in mutual cooperation between the Belarusian and Sudanese justice ministries. The document provides for sharing knowledge and information about the legal systems and the legislation of Belarus and Sudan, for sharing experience for the sake of improving the national legislations.
