Belarus, India mark 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has sent greetings to India President Pranab Mukherjee as the countries celebrate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

I am glad to say that during this period our contacts have been relying on the principles mutual respect and trust, commitment to the friendly and constructive dialogue, the message of greetings reads.


Belarus, Pakistan mull over joint companies

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) Belarus and Pakistan consider setting up joint companies. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko and Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research of Pakistan Sikandar Bosan, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The parties discussed Belarusian food supplies to Pakistan and imports from Pakistan, the possibilities of setting up joint companies with the prospects of entering third-country markets.

Belarus, Russia agree on joint steps to enhance security

SAINT PETERSBURG, 4 April (BelTA) Belarus and Russia agreed on joint steps in enhancing security, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

You see what is taking place around us. All we want is to preserve stability in Russia and Belarus. Very few peaceful spots have left in this world. We have agreed on joint steps to preserve stability in our states, Alexander Lukashenko said.


Belarus continues work to launch visa-free travel in three cross-border ecotourism areas

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) The Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry continues its work to launch visa-free travel in three cross-border specially protected natural areas, Nikolai Svidinsky, the head of the biological and landscape diversity department at the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, told reporters on 28 March, BelTA has learned.


French inspection team to check Belarusian army units

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) An inspection team from France will stay in Belarus on 20-24 March to choose and examine a unit of the Belarusian army in line with the Conventional Weapons in Europe Treaty. The inspectors will also visit the 336th Rocket Artillery Brigade within the framework of the 2011 Vienna Document, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The French inspectors will make sure that the number of armaments and military hardware on site matches the numbers Belarus has revealed in accordance with the Conventional Weapons in Europe Treaty.


Initiative for Belarus-Poland mass media cooperation agreement

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) The Belarusian Information Ministry is initiating the development of an agreement on Belarus-Poland cooperation in information sphere, BelTA learned from Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich during her meeting with Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marek Ziolkowski.

The Information Minister said: It is important for information to promote cooperation, to help us understand each other better and trust each other, to contribute to stronger trade and economic projects and to stronger political cooperation.


Belarus delegation in Pakistan to discuss bilateral cooperation

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) The two-day working visit of the Belarusian delegation led by Industry Minister Vitaly Vovk to Karachi (the administrative center of Pakistans Sind Province) started on 9 March, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Pakistan.

On the first day of the visit the Belarusian delegation took part in the opening of the fourth meeting of the joint Belarus-Pakistan commission on trade and economic cooperation.


Call to abolish confiscation of goods as a penalty in Belarus

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) - Belarus can abolish such measure as confiscation of goods as punishment of business, Valery Borodenya, a member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

In European countries there is no penalty as confiscation. I would keep in place such measure as vehicle confiscation for repeated DIU during a year.


Advancement of Belarus-UK relations discussed

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Belarus Fionna Gibb on 21 February, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

During the meeting Oleg Kravchenko and Fionna Gibb discussed the advancement of Belarus-UK relations.

Belarus refinancing rate down to 16% per annum

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) The refinancing rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) was reduced from 17% to 16% per annum on 15 February, BelTA learned from the NBRB Information and PR Office.

Apart from that, the interest rate on standing and bilateral operations designed to keep up the current liquidity of Belarusian banks was reduced from 22% to 20% per annum.

The NBRB representatives explained that the decisions had been taken by the board and the monetary policy committee of the National Bank on the basis of the consumer prices growth forecast, the situation on the currency and deposit markets, the countrys foreign trade and balance of payments.
