Ambassador concerned about lack of positive things in Russian-Belarusian information space

MOSCOW, 16 March (BelTA) – The Russian-Belarusian information space could obviously do with more positive things, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko. The statement was made during the expert and mass media seminar held in Moscow on 15 March to discuss theater culture in the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

The Ambassador said: “A shortage of positive things is obvious in the information space these days. Not because there are not enough of them but because economic disputes overshadow interregional cooperation, cooperation between scientists, cooperation in security, cultural and humanitarian affairs, joint efforts in the international scene, equal rights of citizens and, at last, grassroots democracy and friendship between people.”

The Ambassador remarked that bilateral cooperation in culture develops positively. In his opinion, it is important for classic works and modern ones to mutually enrich the Belarusian and Russian cultures, to bolster the spiritual affinity of Belarusians and Russians for the sake of forming morally sound future generations.

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that most serious attention is paid to the development of theater art in Belarus. “We understand the importance of this public institution and hold in high esteem the people endowed with the divine spark. We can clearly see it is vital to encourage the mutual enrichment of theater cultures in the Union State,” stressed Igor Petrishenko.

The main purpose of the seminar was to attract attention of government agencies and the general public to topical problems in scenic art in Belarus and Russia. The event gathered leading theater art experts from the two countries. The number included State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota, People’s Artist of Belarus Vladimir Gostyukhin, People’s Artist of the USSR Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Director of the international art festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk Alexander Sidorenko, and other theater art experts.

The event was organized by the Permanent Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the international news agency Russia Today.
