Agricultural lands total 48.799 hectares including 30.045 hectares of arable land and 18.660 hectares of meadows.

The region has four agricultural production cooperatives, four municipal unitary agricultural companies, a municipal unitary production company Shumilino raiagroservice, 14 farms.

The region specializes in plant growing (grain, flax, corn, rape) and cattle breeding (production of milk and meat).
