Culture and Mass Media

The region has 23 clubs, a historical regional museum in Shumilino and its subsidiary in Obol, two arts schools and their seven rural subsidiaries, 25 libraries, a club library, a craftsmen center, a regional methodic center.

Some 13 amateur art groups were awarded the title of “people’s” and four amateur art groups – the title of “exemplary”.

The region has 91 after school groups. The central library has 199.439 books.

There is also a mobile library in the region.

The local mass media includes a newspaper Geroi Pratsy (Hero of Labour) and a radio station.
