Belarus’ National Bank museum enriches its holdings with medieval coins

Two unique numismatic collections from the 15th century were added to the museum holdings of the National Bank, Chairman of the National Bank Roman Golovchenko said at the 12th International Numismatic Conference, BelTA learned from the bank's press service.

“In 2025 we added two numismatic collections from the first half of the 15th century to the National Bank museum. They hold a big historical and scientific value. A thorough study will allow us to reassess and refine the knowledge about the monetary economy in the Belarusian lands during that period. Such collections are quite rare and rightfully deserve the status of national significance,” Roman Golovchenko said.

The National Bank added that the collections were discovered near the village of Knyazhitsy in Mogilev Oblast: one in the late 1990s and the second in the spring of 2004. They contain 39 ingots, of which 27 ingots bear "Western" type stamps and 700 Prague groschen. Notably, the ingots feature 13 of the 16 known stamps to date.
