How the 900th anniversary of the Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery will be celebrated was discussed at the meeting of the organizing committee
The preparation and holding of the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Spaso-Euphrosyne Convent in Polotsk was discussed at a meeting of the republican organizing committee, which was held on December 19 under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko, BelTA learned from the government's press service.
The meeting was attended by Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavsky, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Veniamin and Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs Alexander Rumak.
"The Polotsk Monastery occupies a special place in the history of our country. Its founder, St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk, is revered as the heavenly defender of Belarus. The life and spiritual feat of the saint became an example of fidelity to Christian ideals and devotion to the chosen path," the press service noted.
The jubilee year for the monastery will be 2025. Cultural, spiritual and educational projects are planned throughout Belarus. The main events will be held in ancient Polotsk: scientific and practical conferences, exhibitions, contests of scientific and creative works. A series of TV programs dedicated to the anniversary date will be prepared. Thematic tourist routes are being prepared.
At the meeting of the republican organizing committee, the progress of preparations for the celebration of the anniversary date was discussed.
Igor Petrishenko stressed that the monastery in Polotsk is a national cultural heritage of Belarus, a spiritual symbol of the people. The anniversary events should be organized at the highest creative and spiritual level, emphasizing the importance of the Polotsk shrine and the spiritual feat of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk not only for Belarus, but also for the entire Orthodox world. Special attention should be paid to the theme of the anniversary in the work on the spiritual and moral education of young people.
