In 2024, criminal cases were initiated against 24 minors in the Vitebsk region in connection with drug trafficking, 19 of them are related to sales. This was announced at the dialogue platform "Youth against Drugs" in the Media Center of the Vitebsk region by Ivan Korotkiy, head of the Department for Drug Control and Combating Human Trafficking at the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

– 848 drug addicts are registered in the healthcare institutions of the region. In January–October 2024, 27 cases of drug overdose were recorded. 323 crimes have been identified in the field of drug trafficking, 144 of them are related to sales. More than 22 kg of prohibited substances were seized," said a representative of the internal affairs bodies.

The expert explained to the youth that both administrative and criminal liability is provided for any actions with drugs. For example, for being in a public place under the influence of drugs or using drugs in a public place, administrative liability in the form of a fine is provided. Possession and possession of drugs entails criminal liability. Drug trafficking as a form of drug transfer from one person to another is a grave and especially grave crime, for which, according to the Criminal Code, imprisonment up to life imprisonment is provided.

The Internet is still the main way to distribute drugs. Drug dealers are trying to attract young people as "pawners".

– This year, the Vitebsk police detained 24 minors for drug offenses, 19 of them worked as "pawnbrokers," Ivan Korotkiy noted.
