New details have emerged in the case of the fire in the shopping center in Vitebsk. As it turned out, violations were previously identified there, which the owner did not eliminate. This was reported by the Minister of Emergency Situations Vadim Sinyavsky on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BELTA reports.
"We have not yet been provided with the design and estimate documentation, which certainly contains quite a lot of questions for this owner. It may not have been provided for two reasons: first, they are hiding it from us, and second, it simply does not exist. This will be given an appropriate assessment as part of the inspection," said Vadim Sinyavsky.
There are also problems associated with evacuation routes, the minister noted. "They are cluttered, staircases, unfortunately, are not used for their intended purpose, which could cause a fairly serious collapse when evacuating people from these facilities," he explained.
In addition, individual problems are related to fire alarms, fire automation and notification issues. "Unfortunately, the person (the owner of the shopping center. - BELTA note) himself made decisions on the repurposing of these objects - retail spaces. The fire alarm was dismantled," Vadim Sinyavsky noted, adding that these issues will be given an appropriate additional assessment.
