Belarus, Russia’s Altai Territory seek closer ties in tourism
Belarus and Altai Territory intend to develop cooperation in tourism, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Sivak said during a meeting with Governor of Russia’s Altai Territory Viktor Tomenko in Minsk on 27 May, BelTA has learned.
"Altai Territory is famed for recreation and tourism opportunities, one of the top ten in Russia. I am aware of your interest in developing tourism with Belarus, attracting tourists and promoting health resort tourism. We are ready to cooperate in this direction," Anatoly Sivak said.
However, an increase in the tourist flow over such a long distance is impossible without a direct air service. "Some Russian regions have direct flights with Minsk. Maybe the time has come for Altai Territory to work out the option of launching a flight from Barnaul to Minsk and back? At the same time, it must be understood that the opening of new flights with Russian regions is possible only if they are subsidized by regional authorities. In turn, Minsk National Airport is ready to provide preferential conditions for aircraft maintenance. I think we will move in this direction," Anatoly Sivak said.
