The BRICS group is well-positioned to become a new powerful economic force, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia on 11 June, BelTA has learned.
"The BRICS countries, their friends and partners make up an impressive global majority and have every chance of becoming a new powerful economic force. The potential of BRICS is enormous. We need to unite our efforts against fragmentation of the international trade system, against growing protectionism and the use of illegal unilateral coercive measures," Sergei Aleinik said.
"We support the idea of expanding the use of national currencies. We also fully share the goals of the BRICS New Development Bank - mobilizing resources for infrastructure projects and sustainable development. Our country can contribute to the New Development Bank in terms of provision of financial support for trade in emerging markets and large-scale international projects such as the North-South transport corridor and the Belt and Road initiative," the diplomat said.
Belarus also supports the intentions of BRICS to engage in a broad dialogue with all stakeholders to intensify cooperation in many areas, ranging from agriculture to global food security to high-tech developments.
"The desire of an increasing number of states to become part of BRICS is undoubtedly an indicator of its growing authority and role in the modern multipolar world. Belarus has something to offer BRICS, and we are ready to contribute to the common cause of ensuring sustainable development," the minister said. "We are pleased to share our experience in implementing international projects in youth policy, healthcare, environmental protection and disaster relief while adhering to the BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy 2025."
