Belarusian Industry Ministry sketches out plans to develop mechanical engineering industry

Belarusian First Deputy Industry Minister Aleksandr Ogorodnikov sketched out plans meant to develop the mechanical engineering industry during a seminar-conference of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on efforts of Belarusian automobile manufacturers to reach goals of the Year of Quality, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Ogorodnikov said: “I can tell you without false modesty that mechanical engineering industry means everything for us. We were and are one of the world’s top three manufacturers of haul trucks. New vehicles with all kinds of engines have been added to the lineup in the last few years. It means we don’t stand still. We keep up with world trends in manufacturing mining vehicles.”

In his words, Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) develops bus manufacturing according to plan. Plans are in place to increase the output capacity and introduce new technological paradigms for assembly, welding, and painting.

“We will satisfy needs of not only our market but also of our foreign colleagues even better and faster. The production of electrobuses develops as well. As for Belkommunmash, the enterprise is also on the threshold of significant modernization. It is necessary to increase the output capacity. While this year the company can make about 300-320 units, the task is to make 500-550 vehicles per annum,” the first deputy industry minister noted.

“Automobile components always go hand in hand. Nearly 20 investment programs are being implemented,” Aleksandr Ogorodnikov added.

The official also talked at length about the development of car manufacturing.

“Last year was very successful for us. This year we intend to achieve even higher figures. We are increasing sales on the home market and export sales. We are working with Belarusian and Russian companies to localize manufacturing. We intend to open another enterprise to make various parts and components within the framework of BelGee by the end of Q3 2024. It will also contribute to deeper manufacturing localization,” the first deputy industry minister added.
