NOC, ROC athletes’ commissions discuss joint events

The headquarters of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus hosted a meeting of the Athletes' Commissions of the Olympic Committees of Belarus and Russia with the participation of commission chairpersons Aliaksandr Bahdanovich and Yuriy Borzakovskiy, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC.

The parties discussed the plan of joint activities until the end of this year, and exchanged views on the current situation in Belarusian and Russian sports. As it was said during the meeting, despite the imposed sanctions, there is no shortage of high-level sports competitions: the joint calendar is packed and varied. If two years ago the moral state of athletes left much to be desired, now their motivation is much higher. According to the members of the commissions, the athletes perform without fear and a sense of uncertainty and are ready to return to the international arena at any moment.

The bans by the IOC and international sports federations motivated both countries to pay more attention to the development of youth sports and work with the Olympic reserve, the press service said. A good example for the younger generation are the current athletes who not only compete in domestic competitions but also take part in a variety of campaigns and events.

The participants of the meeting emphasized that cooperation between Belarus and Russia provides real opportunities for athletes to participate in competitions of new formats in all age categories. A prime example is the performance of young Belarusian athletes at the Children of Asia International Games. Mutual integration of athletes from the two countries in open championships in different sports also cover youth sports.
