Flax, festivity, and family: Orsha hosts the Field of Flowers festival
Orsha has welcomed the Field of Flowers festival for the third time, a celebration featuring concerts by Belarusian performers, games, interactive activities, and above all, a tribute to “Belarusian silk” – flax. Officials from the Orsha District Executive Committee told BelTA how this large-scale event, which has quickly become a new emblem of the city, was unfolding.

From noon onward, a variety of entertainment zones opened their doors to children and adults alike, offering something for every taste. Alongside energetic games, young visitors and their parents were invited to take part in a host of creative workshops. Those with a love for souvenirs could browse the market stalls and discover handmade treasures to remember the joyful Orsha celebration by. And for anyone feeling hungry, the food courts offered a delicious bite without ever having to leave the festival grounds.

The theatrical procession “The Flaxen River” left not a single resident or guest untouched. With original costumes, many inspired by folk traditions, a performance by majorettes, and the smiles of the participants, the spectacle was one that will linger long in the memory of all who watched. At the heart of the procession was an ode to flax – a celebration of its beauty, its uniqueness, and its timeless charm.

Afterward, the festival was officially opened. That day, beloved Belarusian artists took to the stage, enchanting audiences of all ages. Among the performers was rising pop star Lera Bernatovich, who, together with her creative partner Artyom Skorol, took part in the national public cultural campaign Marathon of Unity. She also represented Belarus last year at the pop song contest held during the International Arts Festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk. Throughout the celebration, prizes from the festival’s partners were raffled off. The evening drew to a close with a late night disco featuring beloved retro hits.

The event was organized by the Orsha District Executive Committee and Orsha Linen Mill. Officials at the district executive committee noted that events like these help strengthen family bonds, preserve and nurture national traditions, and lend a helping hand to contemporary art.
