For half a century, Novopolotsk Gymnasium No. 1 has maintained the image of a modern, successfully developing educational institution in the region, and is a pioneer in the process of introducing health-saving technologies.
Opened in 1973 (originally secondary school No. 6), the gymnasium established itself as a new type of school. Today, the staff of the educational institution, led by director Natalya Aldanova, continues the traditions of its predecessors. Dedicated teachers are focused on high results, thanks to which the gymnasium has established itself as an institution where all conditions are created for excellent learning and education of children based on moral values.
High school students take prizes in intellectual and creative competitions, win at all stages of the Republican Olympiad in academic subjects, at the Olympiad for schoolchildren of the Union State “Russia and Belarus: Historical and Spiritual Community”, in the research work competition “Eureka”, etc.
Every year there are graduates who score 100 points on the CT. Thus, in 2023, three children received 100 points each in Russian language, mathematics and social studies. In 2020 and 2021, one high school student each achieved 100 points in English and physics.
Behind the children’s success, of course, is the work of teachers, among whom are three methodological teachers, four excellent students in education, a scholarship holder of the special fund of the President of Belarus for social support of gifted students, a Master of Pedagogical Sciences, finalists of the republican professional competition “Teacher of the Year of the Republic of Belarus.” First of all, these are people who love children and their business. Thanks to their unconventional thinking, the gymnasium implements the most daring, extraordinary innovative projects.
Learn standing and write with a pen
For the first time in Belarus, at the gymnasium from the beginning of the school year, the methodology of health-saving technologies of Professor V. Bazarny “Teaching in the mode of sensory freedom and psychomotor emancipation” was introduced: first-graders during the lesson every 15 minutes, at the command of the teacher, move from desks to desks, standing at which they get used to keep your back straight. The height of the furniture is adjusted to suit the height of the students. In addition, non-standard physical education sessions and creative exercises are conducted for the children.
“Changing postures and the systematic use of ophthalmic simulators during physical education have a beneficial effect on students’ performance, concentration, and mood, and create a positive microclimate in the lesson,” explained Natalya Aldanova. – Foot massage mats are used to prevent combined flat feet. Massage balls for the palms, used in writing lessons during finger exercises, relieve hand tension. Writing with a pen allows the child to intuitively choose the correct position of the hand and determine the force of pressure, alternate between effort and relaxation of the hand, and the need to periodically dip the pen into the inkwell makes it possible to take short breaks from work.
In tandem with parents
One of the current projects in demand among children and parents is the “Fathers and Sons” Workshop, where boys learn useful practical skills under male guidance, for example, the use of metalworking tools. The boys (girls also attend the workshop) make chairs, benches, signs for the wardrobe, kitchen utensils, repair desks, paint equipment for the sports ground, etc.
The gymnasium is also implementing the “Daddy’s Saturday” project, which won the regional stage of the project competition for organizing the sixth school day.
Orientation in the world of professions
As part of career guidance work, teachers organize excursion trips to universities to get acquainted with faculties and specialties. Thus, high school students took part in the “Become a Student for One Day” campaign at PSU named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk. The result of cooperation with Polotsk State University and the Novopolotsk Center for Entrepreneurship and Real Estate was the creation of economic classes at the gymnasium.
Other areas of work of the educational institution include cooperation with sister cities of different countries and the administration of the Hi-Tech Park.
At a festive evening dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the gymnasium, its staff was congratulated by representatives of regional and city authorities and public associations. Its former graduate, deputy chairman of the regional executive committee Vyacheslav Durnov, son of the first director of the gymnasium, Viktor Durnov, also congratulated his native educational institution.
Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee Dmitry Demidov handed over a certificate in the amount of 20 thousand rubles to the educational institution. to strengthen the material and technical base. The teachers were presented with well-deserved awards and said many kind words.
