Vitebsk to plant over 1m flowers ahead of Slavianski Bazaar
More than 1 million flowers will be planted in Vitebsk ahead of the anniversary edition of the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, BelTA learned from Vitebsk Zelenstroy municipal landscaping enterprise.

According to Director Valentina Shendyukova, vertical landscaping will become one of this year’s highlights. As usual, new floral arrangements will adorn Freedom Square, the area around the Summer Amphitheater, Victory Square and the city’s central streets. “A huge vertical floral heart will appear on Victory Square. We also plan to green a public transport stop near Freedom Square. New vertical flower installations will be placed on Freedom Square, Victory Square, Lenin Street, Zamkovaya Street and in the park on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street,” Valentina Shendyukova said.

Speaking about the flowers selected for this year’s displays, she noted that the city would once again feature plants that have become favorites among citizens.

“We are bringing alternanthera back to our flowerbeds. We have not used it for a long time, but decided to return to it because it has proven its value. Bacopa was very popular last year, so we will use it again. We are also bringing back ground ivy. Cannas attracted a great deal of attention from residents and visitors last year, and we have increased their number for 2026,” she said.
Landscaping work is already underway, with the city visibly transforming.

The Kirovsky and Oktyabrsky bridges have already been decorated. In the Year of the Belarusian Woman, a new flowerbed sculpture has appeared near the Summer Amphitheater. The installation depicts a floral silhouette of a young woman holding cornflowers, the symbol of the Slavianski Bazaar festival. A wreath of cornflowers crowns her head, the flowers also decorate her blouse and braid. Her skirt is adorned with a vibrant floral composition designed to bring the colors of summer to the city.

Valentina Shendyukova emphasized that preparations for major events are always carried out with particular care. “It is no coincidence that Vitebsk is known as the floral capital. We need to maintain that reputation. This year the city will bloom even more brightly and be filled with an even greater variety of floral fragrances,” she said.
