The constitutional development of Belarus was discussed at the dialogue platform in Vitebsk

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Petr Miklashevich took part in the dialogue platform "Constitutional Development: the effectiveness of the presidential form of government", which was held at the Vitebsk State Technological University.

At a meeting with VSTU students, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Belarus, the speaker, spoke about the constitutional development of our country, the effectiveness of the presidential form of government, the principle of separation of all branches of government, outlined the main task of the Constitutional Court – control over the constitutionality of normative legal acts.

In particular, the Constitutional Court has the authority to review all laws passed by Parliament before they are sent to the President for signature.

Petr Miklashevich paid special attention to the amendments and additions to the Basic Law of the country, stressing that during the work on the new version of the Constitution, every citizen had the opportunity to express his opinion, as a result, more than 10 thousand proposals from the population were received.

– 85 articles have been corrected, 11 new ones have been introduced and two norms have been excluded. In the development of the provisions of the updated Constitution, the Parliament has done significant work to bring the laws into line with the constitutional provisions. More than 90 laws have been changed. Today, the most important task is to ensure that all constitutional changes are implemented, and constitutional and legal regulation is clear to citizens and everyone lives according to the law," Pyotr Miklashevich explained.


The Chairman of the Constitutional Court dwelled in more detail on some innovations concerning the redistribution of powers between the President, the Government and the Parliament, the new constitutional body – the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, touched upon the protection of family values, youth policy.

Petr Miklashevich answered the questions of students who were interested in the work of the Constitutional Court, the procedure for filing a constitutional complaint and other legal aspects.
